Ionic Contraviral Therapy- ICVT
Formulation Studies
When digoxin and furosemide are utilised for their
cardiovascular indications, they are normally administered as
tablets or injections. They are often prescribed together,
especially for the treatment of heart failure. They do not
however, have a history of being formulated together for
application to the skin or other body surfaces. Henderson
Morley has spent several years understanding the physical
properties of these two compounds and has developed (in
conjunction with several research institutions including well
respected universities and commercial organisations) several
new formulations. These include:
• Aqueous drops for applying the drug to the eye
• Creams and gels for applying to mucous membranes (non hairy
skin such as the lips)
• Drug-in-glue patches for applying to skin warts and plantar
warts
Other studies are ongoing to develop other formulations which
include injections and other slow release forms.
The table below highlights the development status of ICVT
products based upon formulation.
