Biologics Overview

A biological drug product is one that has been derived from a living organism- and includes all vaccines and immune therapy products as well as many hormones and antibodies. It is important to demarcate biological products from pharmaceutical products as the licensing and manufacture is usually authorised and monitored by two distinct organisations (sometimes under the same umbrella organisation eg Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research and Center for Drug Evaluation and Research are both part of the FDA, however they act independently in evaluation and licensing of drugs/biologics).
